Reversible and Irreversible Reactions

We carried out an investigation into what happens when we combine Bicarbonate of soda and white vinegar. When the bicarb mixed with the vinegar, it produced a new material in the form of a gas -carbon dioxide, which made the balloon inflate.

We then mixed warm milk with white vinegar (reactants), it produced a plastic material called casein (product) which is used to make plastic combs, buttons, dice and lots more.

Both these experiments created irreversible reactions - meaning they could not be turned back into their original materials.
